Conway Chosen as Host for High School Week of Champions

The City of Conway was selected recently as the host site for spring high school state championship games by the Arkansas Activities Association board of directors.

The Weekend of Champions will take place at the University of Central Arkansas in 2023-2025. The state championship event includes finals for baseball, softball, and boys and girls soccer.

“We are very excited that the AAA Board agreed that Conway and the University of Central Arkansas are the perfect home for this event,” said Conway Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Rachel Shaw. “These 40 teams from around Arkansas will enjoy Division I facilities, expanded media coverage, and first-class hospitality in Conway. Our community will benefit from the thousands of visitors attending these games.”

Shaw credits the “team” approach taken in developing a successful bid.

“Our existing relationships with the UCA Athletic Department, ArkansasPBS, and Conway Public Schools allowed us to confidently promote Conway as a host site,” she said. “We look forward to growing our host team as we welcome athletes and fans from every part of the state.”

The Weekend of Champions has been held in Benton for the last two years. The three-day event takes place in May and includes 20 state final contests. The games will take place at the UCA baseball and softball fields with soccer being played at Estes Stadium.

University of Central Arkansas Athletics Director Brad Teague said the move to Conway and UCA makes sense for many reasons.

“Our CVB is aggressive and progressive,” he said. “UCA has a beautiful campus with great facilities. Our department’s relationship with the AAA is strong as we have hosted the high school all-star week for almost ten years. We will be able to provide a great experience for these elite high school teams.”
