H+N Architects: Crafting Conway’s built environment [sponsored content]

H+N Architects is a locally owned and operated, full-service architectural firm. Founders and principal architects Liz Hamilton and Joanna Nabholz have experience designing projects ranging from multimillion-dollar commercial buildings to residential properties.

Both natives of Conway, Hamilton and Nabholz met in college and developed a friendship. After finishing school, they worked for various firms – together and independently – before deciding to go into business on their own.

“We both had a heart for serving our community and felt it was time to either follow our dream or abandon it,” Hamilton said. “We took the leap, and Conway has been good to us.”

When Hamilton and Nabholz started H+N Architects, they wanted to adopt a philosophy that summarized the “heart and soul” of their business. They came across a Greek word, meraki, which means “to do something with soul, creativity, or love; when you leave a piece of yourself in your work.”

Meraki is at the center of everything we do. Our main goal is to serve our clients, but we also want to leave a little piece of ourselves in each project,” Hamilton said.

“We want to be able to design custom pieces that are personal to the clients, owners, or to us,” Nabholz added. “We want to emphasize the handmade.”

With the help of production coordinator Lucas Strack, Hamilton and Nabholz have incorporated this philosophy not only into the projects they complete for clients but also into their working environment. Their office on 1109 Main Street in downtown Conway is outfitted with tables built by Strack, and the H+N team also built the reception desk.

Hamilton and Nabholz take a collaborative, team-based approach to every project. The partners are also committed to giving back to the community, whether is through working with area nonprofits or providing internship opportunities to college students.

“Investing in our community – the community we both grew up in and have seen evolve – is a big part of why we do what we do,” Nabholz said.
