First Arkansas Bank & Trust is expanding to Conway. The Jacksonville-based bank purchased a vacant bank building at Prince Street and Hogan Road that is scheduled to open in 2018. We sat down with Mark Wilson, senior vice president of FAB&T, to talk about the new branch and the bank’s “Live First” philosophy.
What makes Conway an ideal location for a new FAB&T branch?
We are expanding into Conway because our customers have asked for it, and we see a real market where we can do a lot of good. Conway is a growing community that has always been progressive and forward-thinking, and we’re excited to be part of that for the future.
What sets FAB&T apart from other banks, and what can customers expect to find at your new Conway branch?
First Arkansas Bank & Trust is a full-service community bank. We have a great branch network of experienced lending staff to take care of all your loan needs, a mortgage department with in-house underwriters, wealth management and trust services, as well as our own credit card. And, unique among community banks around the country, we have a 24-hour customer service hotline where you can talk to a real person and get real help anytime you need us. We’re excited to join Conway and provide those same banking services we have provided to our customers in Jacksonville, Heber Springs, Greenbrier, Cabot and other communities for the past 68 years.
We’re going to have a modern branch at Hogan and Prince Streets that will open in early 2018. We will introduce some services that haven’t been in this market, and we’re going to be able to spend time on relationship building and taking care of all the financial needs of our customers. When you come into our branch, you’ll find a modern but warm and open environment where you can sit down and talk about your financial needs with our branch staff, lending staff, as well as our mortgage department. Anything you need can be served there at our branch, and we’ll take care of all your financial needs going forward.
Our Conway branch will not be the branch of the ‘90s or the 2000s – it’s the branch of the future. We’re excited to bring a new style of banking that’s really the old style – personalized attention and all the financial services you need.
The motto for FAB&T is “LIVE First.” In what ways has the bank demonstrated this philosophy in the communities you serve?
First Arkansas Bank & Trust has always supported our chambers of commerce in all the communities we serve. We work together with our fellow businesses to help our communities with educational initiatives. We have also helped with military affairs in Jacksonville and were awarded the “Air Force Bank of the Year” for the past two years by the Air Force. We have always supported our communities, and we feel that chambers of commerce are a huge part of that.
Any final thoughts?

On a personal note, I’m a 1998 graduate of Hendrix College, and I’m excited to come back to my old stomping grounds here in Conway. And I’m super excited about roundabouts.
