The 54-acre Lewis Crossing development has the potential to include more than 400,000 square feet of new retail development. Anchored by Sam's Club (opening January 2017), Academy Sports + Outdoors, and several other national retailers, the development prompted a redesign of Dave Ward Drive and Amity Road.
The roadway design was done by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and Garver Engineers and included the construction of three new roundabouts and the removal of two stoplights. Rogers Group is the contractor for the roadway construction. Transportation projects are scheduled to be completed by year-end.
Central Landing Overpass
When the new overpass connecting the Central Landing site and Conway Commons opens early next year, it will immediately take thousands of cars off a busy Oak Street. This will be the first bridge in Conway built to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists.
The overpass was designed by Garver Engineers, and the project is being built by Mobley Contractors and Manhattan Construction Group.
Mill Pond Road Extension
The 1.5-mile extension of Mill Pond Road west to Old Military Road will tremendously reduce travel time north from Cresthaven, Orchard Park, and the Orchard at Round Mountain. It will also provide an alternate route for emergencies. Mill Pond Road will now intersect with Old Military road approximately 2 miles south of Carolyn Lewis Elementary.
The Mill Pond extension is being paid for by Faulkner County and design and engineering was done by the City of Conway. It will open in November.
The new interchange 3.5 miles south of Dave Ward Drive will open in late 2016. Once opened, it will reduce traffic on Dave Ward Drive and offer a much faster and more convenient commute south for Conway residents living south of Dave Ward.
The $30 million project is a partnership between the City of Conway and the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. The project was designed by Garver Engineers and Rogers Group is the contractor.
Salem Road Extension / Highway 25 Relocation
The extension of Salem Road and the relocation of Highway 25 will provide a more direct and safer route to northern Faulkner County from the interstate. This is a $10 million joint project of Faulkner County and the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. McGeorge Contracting Co. Inc. is the contractor.
The road is scheduled to open in September 2017.
